Rock On 2 box office collection day 3

How demonetisation destroyed Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor film.

Blame it on demonetisation or the film itself, Shujaat Saudagar’s film Rock On 2 has failed to draw enough audience to the theatres. Rock On 2, which is a sequel to 2008 film Rock On, has stayed dismal in terms of box office collections.

It’s not like the film does not have its own set of stars (literally speaking). Well, big Bollywood names like actors Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai and Shashank Arora are all involved in this project. But the sequel has still failed to match steps with the success rate of the first part. Rock On 2 still has a long way to go, even if it has to come any close to its prequel.
Rock On 2 released on Friday, and collected only Rs 2.02 crores on the first day and followed it up with Rs 2.5 crore on Saturday. Its second day collections were also quite low. Government’s decision to demonetise Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 notes has had an adverse effect on the box office collections of Rock On 2, confirms says producer Ritesh Sidhwani. If Excel Entertainment had prior intimation about the decision it would have pushed the release date of the movie, he says.
“People are busy queueing up outside the banks and even if they are able to get the new Rs. 2000 note they are not able to get the change for it which is affecting the overall collection of the film. If we had any clue about the decision we would have definitely pushed the release date,” Ritesh told PTI.
Picturesque Meghalaya has been captured in the film. However, due to the film’s music failing to capture the imagination, there wasn’t much pre-release buzz for the film. It seems demonetisation hacked away at whatever chances the film had.
